The multi-exam apps earn their price if you plan to sit a top-off exam later. The same purchase carries into Series 7 study. Achievable and Kaplan are courses rather than apps, and you pay for the teaching, not the phone experience. Kaplan gives you a written manual and instructor video, which suits people who want to be taught rather than tested.
Treat advertised pass rates carefully
FINRA does not publish an official SIE pass rate. Providers who advertise one are reporting their own students, counted their own way. Achievable's comparison page, for example, shows 98.2% for its own course and 85% for Kaplan. Nobody audits those numbers, and there is no FINRA figure to check them against.

App, course, or both
An app alone works if you already know some finance, or you are re-sitting after a near miss. You need the reps more than the teaching.

A study routine that fits your phone
- Take the free practice test cold, before you study anything. Write down your weakest section.
- Read the course lessons for that section. Two or three is enough to start.
- Do ten questions a day on your phone. Read the explanation on every one, including the questions you answered correctly.
- Every few days, run a set from SIE practice questions in your strongest section so it does not go stale.
- One week before your test date, sit a full mock exam, timed, in one sitting.
- Re-do every question you got wrong. Then read about the hardest SIE questions and check you can handle that style.
